History

The event was initiated in 2018, to drive community spirit and raise charitable donations, whilst  celebrating the infamous stairs of King Edward's Bay.

Last year, a total of 2,249 loops were completed covering a staggering 898 miles and climbing 292,370 stairs. This gave a total elevation ran up the stairs of 213,655 feet.

We raised in excess of £7,000 in 2023 and aim to beat that in 2024!

With the exception of the Covid 19 year, we have continued the event every year. We are proud to raise money for the TVLB as well as raising awareness about the charity.

Riley's Fish Shack

fabulous fish, locally caught, simply served.

"We work closely with a trusted and growing network of local suppliers, to ensure we receive the best produce. Dealing directly with the fishermen of Caley Fisheries, Blyth Fisheries Ltd, South Harbour import dock and North Shields Market for all our fish and seafood."

The Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade is a voluntary shore based coastal rescue service founded in 1864. The charity is a Declared Facility to HM Coastguard for Rope Rescue, Coastal Search and Rescue and one of the last remaining trained teams for Ship to Shore Breeches Buoy Rescue.

Operating from our Watch House Museum in Tynemouth on the North East coast of England, they work closely with all the emergency services including the local RNLI. In recent years the Brigade has averaged over 120 callouts a year and these range from monitoring and gathering information on broken down boats to recovering cliff casualties from our coastline.
